Police rescue kidnapped Nasarawa monarch

The police have rescued Emmanuel Omanji, the traditional ruler of Dari community in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, who was kidnapped from his residence on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

According to the police, Omanji was taken away by gunmen who shot indiscriminately in the community before abducting him.

In a statement, police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel said the monarch was rescued unhurt around 9pm on Monday, June 2, 2025.

He said, “Immediately after the rescue, the victim was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and has since been reunited with his family.”

Nansel explained that the rescue operation took place in the Panwasa Mountains, near Mada Station, following sustained pressure from the Command’s Search and Rescue Team.

He added, “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects involved in the abduction.”

The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, thanked members of the public for their support and useful information.

He said, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, extends his heartfelt appreciation to members of the public for their invaluable support and timely information, which greatly assisted in the rescue operation.”

The commissioner also praised the role played by other security agencies and local vigilante groups.

He said, “He also commends the efforts and collaboration of other security agencies and local vigilante groups whose support was instrumental to the success of this mission.”
