The Taraba State Police Command has rescued an Israeli national, Gil Itamar, who was kidnapped by gunmen in the Atim community along the Takum/Chanchangi Road on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

Itamar, a staff member of an engineering construction company S.C.C Nigeria Limited in Takum, was abducted around 9:15 a.m. by armed men while on duty.

His kidnapping was reported by a colleague, Alhaji Saidu, who quickly contacted the police.

The Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, James Lashen, said in a statement that the Divisional Police Officer of Takum, together with officers from the 67 PMF squad, soldiers, and local hunters, moved swiftly after the report came in at about 10:30 a.m.

According to Lashen, the joint team carried out a serious search-and-rescue mission which led to the victim being found in Kofai Ahmadu area.

There was a heavy exchange of gunfire, and the kidnappers were forced to flee, leaving Itamar behind.

“The victim is currently receiving medical attention at the SCC company’s clinic in Takum,” Lashen added.

The police say they are still tracking the fleeing suspects and are determined to arrest them.

The Commissioner of Police in Taraba State, Bretet Emmanuel, praised the officers, soldiers, and hunters for their bravery and quick response.

He said, “The command will not rest until all residents of Taraba are safe. I urge all criminal elements to leave the state, because we will make it difficult for them to operate.”

Police also assured the public that operations will continue until the kidnappers are brought to justice.
