The Delta State Police Command has recorded major operational successes in two separate incidents, underscoring its commitment to tackling violent crime and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that on February 2, 2026, five armed men suspected to be kidnappers blocked the Ewu–Ajekuta Road and abducted four occupants of a Toyota Sienna vehicle.
Edafe said that upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Otu-Jeremi Division promptly mobilised police operatives.
He stated that the operatives, working in collaboration with other security agencies and vigilante members of the Ewu community, launched a coordinated pursuit of the suspects.
According to him, the operation resulted in the successful rescue of all four victims, who were immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention.
He added that two expended 7.5mm ammunition were recovered at the scene of the incident.
The police spokesman noted that an extensive bush-combing exercise and manhunt were ongoing to apprehend the suspects who fled the area.
Edafe further revealed that in a separate intelligence-driven operation carried out on February 3, 2026, operatives of the Ibusa Division raided a suspected cult meeting at Anioma Garden, Ugboli Quarters, Ibusa.
He said one suspect, identified as Michael Ayauze, was arrested during the raid, adding that preliminary investigations showed he is a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
Edafe stated that a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one English Beretta pistol, one live round of ammunition, and assorted charms.
He explained that other members of the group escaped upon sighting the police, noting that efforts had been intensified to track down and arrest the remaining suspects.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Aina Adesola, reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward kidnapping, cultism, and other violent crimes. He urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information through appropriate channels.
