Police operatives in Anambra State have rescued a kidnapped victim during a late-night operation in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area.

The victim was saved around Umuege Village on Tuesday night, April 23, after police officers from the Central Police Station in Awka received a distress report at about 10:45 p.m.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the officers quickly moved into action, chasing the kidnappers and blocking key routes.

“This followed a hot chase and strategic positioning by police operatives after receiving information about the abduction,” Ikenga said.

The kidnappers, who were using an unmarked Sienna vehicle, were forced to abandon the victim at Umunya, along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, and fled the scene.

“The Anambra State Police Command today, April 23, confirmed the rescue and safe return of a kidnapped victim at Umuege Village, Amawbia, and has debriefed the victim for necessary action,” Ikenga added.

The police said no arrests have been made yet, but the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full investigation into the case.
