Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have rescued a woman abducted along Weluwelu Street, Ilekun, on Oda Road in Akure, and arrested four suspects linked to the incident.
The suspects were caught after a swift response by detectives following a distress call from a resident who witnessed the abduction around 6:30 p.m.
According to reports, the woman was seized by four men driving an unregistered Toyota Camry and was being taken to an undisclosed location before police intervention.
Acting on the alert, operatives from the Ondo State Police Command quickly mobilised and blocked the suspects’ route, leading to their arrest and the immediate rescue of the victim.
A source within the command said the suspects were overpowered after their vehicle was intercepted. “The timely coordination between the alert citizen and the rapid response of the operatives prevented what could have been another tragic abduction,” the source noted.
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the unregistered vehicle used in the crime had been recovered as evidence.
He added that all four suspects were in custody while investigations were ongoing to identify other possible accomplices.
Olayinka commended the swift action of the police team and praised the vigilant resident whose quick report helped foil the kidnap attempt.
He said the successful operation showed the growing cooperation between the police and the public, describing it as an important part of modern policing.
