Police rescue abducted man from kidnappers in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has rescued a kidnapped man and recovered his stolen vehicle in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, revealed this in a statement in Uyo on Saturday.

According to the statement, the man was kidnapped along Okop Eto Road on February 13, 2025, and taken to an unknown location.

“Operatives of the command, acting on credible intelligence, immediately swung into action and engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel,” John said.

She explained that the kidnappers, overwhelmed by the police’s firepower, fled with gunshot wounds, leaving the victim unharmed.

“The victim was rescued unhurt, his vehicle recovered, and he has since been reunited with his family,” the statement added.

The police also recovered a Lexus RX 350 SUV, ash in colour, which belonged to the victim.

John stated that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, recover their weapons, and bring them to justice.

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, praised the officers for their bravery during the operation.

He assured residents that the command remains committed to fighting crime and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
