The Oyo State Police Command has rescued 84 victims from a human trafficking operation in Ibadan, the state capital.
The police, during a major operation, found 83 adults and one child in a house located in the Orogun area of the city. The victims had been kept there for an unknown period of time.
Early investigations revealed that the victims, who are believed to be from the Democratic Republic of Congo, were tricked into coming to Nigeria with promises of job opportunities.
It was also reported that the traffickers collected large amounts of money, said to be in dollars, from the victims’ parents and relatives as part of the fake arrangement.
The rescued individuals are now at the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, where investigations are ongoing to find out more details and arrest everyone involved.
The police assured the public that they are working hard to ensure that justice is served. They also advised people to be careful and always verify job offers, especially from unknown sources.
