The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 21 kidnapped victims and recovered N4.8 million in ransom money during recent operations across different states.

In a statement on Monday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the operations were part of efforts to tackle crime and ensure the safety of Nigerians.

He noted that one of the major operations took place in Taraba State on March 29, along the Takum/Mararaba road. Police officers, working with other security agencies, responded to a kidnapping incident in Muji Town.

“A fierce gun battle ensued, leading to the rescue of 20 kidnapped victims, alongside all the vehicles abandoned at the scene. Two of the victims who sustained injuries are currently receiving medical care,” Adejobi stated.

In Kano State, police launched an investigation on March 8 after the kidnapping of Dr. Muhammad Bello Yushau.

The search led to a series of arrests on March 18 and 19, with police capturing suspects identified as Tukur Lawal, also known as Maikudi, along with Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim.

Adejobi said, “In their possession, authorities recovered a locally made rifle and N4,840,000 in cash believed to be ransom money. The victim was rescued unhurt and reunited with his family.”

In another operation, officers from the Special Tactical Squad (STS) arrested Kafinta Musa from Taraba State over his involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms.

“An AK49 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition was seized during the arrest. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of his criminal syndicate,” the statement added.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the officers for their bravery and professionalism.

He also urged Nigerians to support the police by providing timely information that could help in the fight against crime.
