The Katsina State Police Command thwarted multiple attacks by armed bandits in three areas of Jibia Township, rescuing 21 abducted individuals in Ka’ida, Unguwar One Boy, and Danmarke quarters of Jibia Local Government Area.

The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, shared in a Friday statement that the rescue mission was a combined effort involving the Nigerian Army, members of the State Community Watch Corps, and local vigilantes.

“In a swift and coordinated response, we successfully foiled simultaneous bandits’ attacks at Ka’ida, Unguwar One Boy, and Danmarke quarters in Jibia Township, Katsina State, on Nov. 7,” Sadiq-Aliyu explained. According to him, the attacks began around 9:15 pm on Thursday, with suspected armed bandits launching coordinated raids on the communities.

However, the quick action of the joint security forces led to a prolonged gun battle, forcing the bandits to withdraw. “The superior firepower and tactical advantage of the joint security team eventually forced the bandits to retreat with unspecified casualties,” he added. Sixteen hostages were freed during the confrontation.

Sadiq-Aliyu also reported that five more people were rescued but had sustained gunshot injuries. “These individuals were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical care,” he stated.

Tragically, the encounter claimed the lives of one member of the state’s security corps and a vigilante. “Sadly, one member of the state’s security outfit, and a vigilante member lost their lives during the encounter, paying the ultimate price,” Sadiq-Aliyu said.

The Katsina Police Command has assured the public that efforts to track down the perpetrators are ongoing. “The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, reassures the public of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state,” said Sadiq-Aliyu.

He also called on residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity, providing emergency contact numbers 0815 967 7777 and 0707 272 2539 for assistance.
