The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has rescued 10 pregnant women from a baby factory run by 56-year-old Eunice Eze.
Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara announced the rescue during a briefing at the Police Headquarters in Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, on Tuesday. He said Eze was arrested on July 15 at 4:30 pm based on reliable information.
“On July 15 at about 4:30 pm, Mrs. Eunice Eze, aged 56, was arrested for operating a baby factory at World Bank Estate in Owerri,” Ayilara said. “The suspect specializes in stealing babies and pregnant women from Akwa Ibom through her agent, Ability Tom.”
Ayilara also reported that a wanted kidnapper was arrested along with his group. This kidnapper and his team were responsible for several kidnappings and murders in the state.
The police recovered weapons from the kidnapper’s hideout. “We found two AK-47 rifles, two G3 rifles, one double-barrel rifle, five magazines, and seven live ammunition at a private mortuary used as an armoury in Ekeya, Okobo Local Government Area,” Ayilara said.
He thanked the state government, other security agencies, and the public for their support and information that led to these arrests. “We look forward to continued collaboration to keep Akwa Ibom safer and more peaceful,” Ayilara added.
