Police officers in Katsina State have arrested two men suspected of stealing a car and rejected a ₦1 million bribe offered by the suspects to avoid arrest.
The suspects, Mubarak Kabir, 26, and Adamu Hashim, 27, both from Kurna quarters, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, were caught during a routine patrol along Birnin Kuka village in Mashi LGA of Katsina State.
This was revealed in a statement by the police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, on Wednesday.
“On April 11, 2025, at about 3pm, officers of the Border Patrol Team Zone 4 stopped a green Toyota Corolla LE driven by the suspects,” the statement said.
After checking the vehicle, the police found that it had been reported stolen in Abuja.
“The suspects then offered a bribe of one million naira in cash to the patrol team to avoid being arrested, but the officers strongly rejected the offer,” DSP Sadiq added.
Police recovered the following items from the suspects:
- A suspected stolen Toyota Corolla
- ₦1,000,000 cash
- Three mobile phones
- One power bank
- A bunch of keys
The suspects are now in police custody while investigations continue to determine how deep their involvement is in criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Bello Shehu, praised the officers for their honesty and bravery.
He also promised that the police would continue to protect lives and property in the state and would always work with honesty and respect for human rights.
