Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have uncovered a large cache of suspected illicit drugs at a hideout in Ibadan after acting on credible intelligence received from a partner security agency.

The command disclosed that the intelligence pointed to an apartment on Abanise Street, Academy area, Olomi, Ibadan, allegedly used by one Oluwadamilare Adedayo to store suspected illicit substances, prompting detectives to proceed to the location to confirm the information.

During a search of the apartment, officers recovered nine bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 101 wraps of substances believed to be Canadian Loud, along with other suspected illicit drugs.

The items were taken into custody as exhibits, dealing a blow to an alleged drug distribution network operating in the area.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the suspect was not found at the scene during the operation. He added that, on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, surveillance had been intensified and a coordinated manhunt launched to apprehend the suspect.

Haruna also praised the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his sustained support, which he said has continued to enhance intelligence-driven policing across the country.

In a related development, the command announced the commencement of investigations into an alleged child abuse case involving a six-year-old girl in Ibadan, confirming the arrest of a 65-year-old suspect identified as Ibrahim Raheem in connection with the incident.

The police stated that the victim had been taken to a hospital for medical assessment and psychosocial support, adding that investigations into the case are still ongoing.
