The Enugu State Police Command has announced the recovery of two stolen vehicles and the arrest of six suspects in separate intelligence-driven operations carried out across the state to tackle vehicle theft and related offences.
In the first operation, operatives attached to the New Haven Police Division recovered a stolen Mitsubishi L300 bus on January 8, 2026, at Ogui, Enugu.
The vehicle was earlier reported stolen on December 31, 2025, from where it was parked in the New Haven area.
Four suspects — Hassan Sheyu (29), Bashiru Yusuf (37), Alago Yusuf (30) and Idris Abisolamu (28) — were arrested in connection with the theft.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the recovery was made possible through “credible intelligence received by operatives of the Command.”
“Acting on reliable information, our operatives successfully recovered the stolen Mitsubishi L300 bus and arrested four suspects involved in the crime,” Ndukwe said.
He further disclosed that a suspected receiver of stolen property, Nwanneka Isiugwu, was also arrested after allegedly buying the vehicle for ₦1.7 million.
“The suspect confessed that he bought the stolen vehicle from the suspects in the sum of ₦1,700,000.00,” the police spokesman stated.
In a related operation, operatives of the Udenu Police Division arrested a 27-year-old mechanic, Friday Onuh, on January 7, 2026, at Obollo-Afor in Udenu Local Government Area, and recovered a stolen Toyota Camry 2.4.
According to the police, the suspect admitted that the vehicle was handed over to him for repairs by its owner in Victoria Island, Lagos, but he later made away with it.
“He confessed that he absconded with the vehicle after it was given to him for repairs,” Ndukwe said, adding that the vehicle owner confirmed the theft after being contacted by the police.
Reacting to the arrests, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bitrus Giwa, restated the command’s determination to rid the state of criminal activities.
“The Enugu State Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state.
“Criminals should know that Enugu is not a safe haven for crime,” Giwa said.
The police commissioner also urged vehicle owners to adopt preventive measures to safeguard their property.
“Vehicle owners are strongly encouraged to install tracking devices, steering and pedal locks, and other anti-theft mechanisms, and to exercise caution and due diligence when deciding who to entrust their vehicles to,” he added.
The command said investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other suspects still at large, noting that all those arrested will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
