Police recover stolen vehicle in Kano, arrest suspect

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Bala Sani, and recovered a stolen grey Rav-4 mini jeep with the registration number YAB 881 JK Abuja.

The command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the recovery in a press statement on Monday. He stated, “On December 28, 2024, at approximately 5:00 pm, a team of policemen from the Anti-Car Theft Unit, State Criminal Investigation Department, recovered an abandoned Rav-4 motor vehicle.”

The vehicle was found during a patrol along Kwanar Ungogo in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State.

Haruna revealed that preliminary investigations led to the arrest of 40-year-old Bala Sani from Funtua Local Government Area in Katsina State. The suspect was apprehended on January 4, 2025, in his hometown at Kwado Quarters, Katsina.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to conspiring with another individual to steal the vehicle from Zaria, Kaduna State. He confessed, “I drove the vehicle to Kano with the intention of selling it, but when I saw police officers near Ungogo Junction, I abandoned the vehicle and fled to my hometown.”

The recovered vehicle is currently in police custody, and the suspect will be charged to court once investigations are completed.

The police have asked the owner of the stolen vehicle to report to the Kano State Police Public Relations Office or contact 08067885568 with proof of ownership to claim the car.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Salman Dogo Garba, commended the efforts of the officers and urged residents to remain vigilant.
