The Enugu State Police Command has recovered a Sinotruk truck that was snatched at gunpoint in Delta State.
Operatives attached to the Awgu Division recovered the vehicle in the early hours of January 31 along Ndeagbor Road in Awgu community.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Thursday said the recovery followed a swift response to an intelligence report. The truck had been stolen from its driver at Ugwuashi-Uku, Delta State, on January 29.
“On sighting the operatives, the criminal elements abandoned the truck and fled into a nearby forest. A manhunt for the suspects is ongoing, while the owner of the vehicle has been identified and investigations have commenced,” Ndukwe stated.
The distance between Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State and Awgu in Enugu State is approximately 150–180 kilometres, connected mainly by the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway. The area’s dense vegetation and hilly terrain allowed the suspects to escape into the forest.
The Enugu State Police Command has been working to curb the influx of criminal elements from neighbouring states.
