Operatives of the Abia State Police Command have recovered six stolen SUVs during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Aba, the commercial hub of the state.
The operation was carried out by the Rapid Response Squad, based in Aba North Local Government Area, after receiving reliable intelligence about the location of the stolen vehicles.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, the operation focused on the Uratta area of the city. Six stolen vehicles were recovered, including an ash-colored Toyota Camry (Reg No: LSD 885 CX), a red Toyota (Reg No: GDD 254 AA), a navy blue Toyota RAV4 (Reg No: AG 743 BRR), a black Toyota 4Runner (Reg No: ABC 903 BR), another Toyota RAV4 (Reg No: KTU 778 BR), and an ash-colored Toyota Sienna (Reg No: GWB 350 HM).
Chinaka explained that most of the stolen vehicles were taken at gunpoint. The suspects who had been involved in the car thefts were tracked down and arrested by the RRS team. However, she did not confirm the number of suspects who were arrested.
“Investigations are still ongoing to arrest other suspects who are still on the run,” Chinaka said.
The PPRO also issued a public notice to anyone with valid documents for the recovered vehicles. She advised owners to visit the Police Command Headquarters for authentication and reclaim their vehicles.
“Anyone with valid documents related to the above-mentioned vehicles should visit the Command Headquarters for authentication and reclaiming,” Chinaka added.
