The Enugu State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the shooting and killing of Smith Odinaka in Enugu.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, Odinaka was killed near the Mercedes-Benz Company premises on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway at around 1 a.m. on October 13.

Ndukwe said, “The state police commissioner, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the shooting and murder of Odinaka.”

He assured the public that all efforts would be made to find and arrest those responsible. “Justice will be served,” the commissioner promised.

Preliminary findings revealed that Odinaka was driving a Mercedes-Benz with two male friends when a gunshot, suspected to have been fired by security agents, struck the vehicle. Odinaka was hit in the left hip and rushed to the hospital but later died.

Contrary to some reports, Ndukwe stated that the investigation has not yet linked the crime to any police officers. He added that a thorough investigation is ongoing, and the findings will be made public once completed.
