The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of an unidentified woman whose body was discovered along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja.

According to the police, the woman was found on Tuesday, with her handbag recovered a short distance from the scene.

Items found inside the bag included an identity card and other personal belongings, which preliminary checks suggest may indicate that she was a staff member of the FCT High Court.

Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said detectives had launched a discreet investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

“The FCT Police Command is aware of this unfortunate incident,” Adeh said.

“Discrete investigations are currently ongoing to unravel the facts and circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. Further details will be made available as the investigation progresses.”

The development has heightened public anxiety amid a recent surge in violent deaths within the nation’s capital. The incident comes shortly after the killing of a nurse at the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, identified as Chinemerem Chuwumeziem.
Chuwumeziem’s death had drawn public condemnation, particularly from the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), FCT Council. In a statement signed by its chairman, Jama Medan, the association revealed that the nurse had closed from afternoon duty on January 3, boarded a vehicle to return home, but never made it alive.

The police have reassured residents of the FCT that efforts are underway to ensure justice is served. They also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and support ongoing investigations by volunteering credible information that may assist authorities in unraveling the case.
