The Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the murder of a former National Union of Road Transport Workers unit chairman, Kazeem Oyewole, who was killed by suspected hoodlums in Osogbo on Sunday.

According to The PUNCH, Oyewole, who served as part-time chairman of the NURTW Aregbe Unit between 2018 and 2022, was attacked around Elelede Junction in the afternoon.

An eyewitness who requested anonymity stated that hoodlums stationed at the junction were extorting money from passersby for a proposed carnival when a motorcycle carrying two people arrived.

“They forced the two passengers to disembark, started fighting them, and I heard gunshots. They later identified one as Kazeem. They brought big stones and smashed his head. He died on the spot. The other person escaped with an open wound,” the witness said.

A shop owner at the junction, Basira, confirmed that business activities were disrupted, adding that the victim was identified by NURTW members who arrived later.

Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident, stating, “We are aware of the incident that happened at Orita Elelede (Osogbo), and we deployed our men to the place immediately after the information got to us, but unfortunately, one person was confirmed dead. He was identified as Kazeem. Investigation has commenced.”

When asked about security at motor parks to prevent escalation, Ojelabi said, “We are still monitoring the situation. We are going to monitor the parks for now.”

This killing follows the murder of another prominent NURTW leader, Adeboye Ademoroti, who was shot dead by unknown assailants in Ilesa on November 27, 2025.
