Police have opened a voyeurism investigation after concealed pinhole cameras were discovered inside the changing and shower facilities of a 24/7 Fitness branch in Sha Tin.
Staff alerted authorities following the discovery and several cubicles were subsequently cordoned off.
The incident was reportedly uncovered by a male gym member using the shower facilities at the chain’s Lek Yuen Street branch.
He noticed an unusually large gap along the false ceiling and spotted a faint blue light blinking between the panels. After lifting an overhead board, he found a miniature camera fixed in position with black adhesive tape.
The member promptly informed staff, who verified the discovery and referred the matter to branch management.
Management then contacted the police to report the suspected surveillance equipment.
Police said they received an emergency call from the gym in the late afternoon concerning a suspicious device attached near the ceiling of a changing cubicle.
Officers sent to the branch conducted a detailed search of the premises and found matching pinhole cameras in three of the facility’s four changing rooms.
Initial inquiries indicated that the cameras had been connected directly to the electrical wiring supplying the ceiling lights. This suggested that the devices were designed to obtain a continuous power supply from the gym’s lighting system.
Following the discovery, the member recorded a video that was later shared on social media. The footage showed exposed wiring and a camera concealed behind the ceiling grid.
Other gym users also posted about the incident on online forums, claiming that three shower cubicles were quickly sealed while authorities collected evidence at the scene.
Police have classified the case as voyeurism, with the investigation being handled by the Sha Tin District Criminal Investigation Team. The inquiry is continuing.
