Police probe abduction of ex-minister Adelabu’s relatives in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the kidnapping of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke and her twin sons, who were reportedly abducted in Ibadan on Wednesday.

The victims are said to be family members of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State ordered an immediate response, directing the Divisional Police Officer of the Challenge Division, alongside tactical operatives, to move swiftly to the scene and begin rescue and investigative efforts.

Police sources revealed that the vehicle belonging to the victims was recovered at the location of the abduction. Security operatives have since launched a coordinated operation aimed at locating the kidnapped individuals and apprehending those behind the crime.

Confirming the development in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command acted promptly after receiving information about the incident.

“Following the report of the incident, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer, Challenge Division, and other tactical teams to the scene where the victims’ vehicle was recovered to commence intensive investigations,” Ayanlade stated.

He stressed that the police had committed all available resources to securing the victims’ release and ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

“We want to assure members of the public that every available resource has been deployed to guarantee the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of those responsible for this criminal act,” he said.

According to the police spokesperson, investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the abduction while pursuing leads that could result in the arrest of all suspects connected to the crime.

Ayanlade further called on residents to remain cooperative and assist law enforcement agencies with useful information that could support ongoing efforts.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding and cooperate with the police by providing useful information that may assist the investigation,” he added.
