The Police Force Public Relations Officer, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has stirred controversy with a tweet celebrating former and current indigenous Inspector General of Police in Nigeria.

On May 4th, Adejobi tweeted, “Former and current indigenous IGPs in Nigeria. We celebrate you all (living and late). Ire oo..” along with a picture of notable police figures on a map of Nigeria.

However, amidst several criticisms, a Twitter user, @HommiesDrey, responded, calling the police force “Criminals from the most corrupt civil organization in the entire multiverse.”

However, Adejobi replied to the tweet “@HommiesDrey You will repeat it with evidence soon. It’s a matter of time.”

Netizens further criticized Adejobi, with one user, Harry 🎯🎯🎯 @chiditweets042, urging him to “start with your colleague”

@Oserume1, quipped, “Prince Ire ooo” you knew MC Oluomo was joking when he threatened Igbos in Lagos, you should take the accusation of the police as a joke also…”

Another user, @EXPOPE1, accused Adejobi of threatening and bullying innocent Nigerians, commenting “Muyiwa you and your incapable colleagues have never for one day pose a threat on these animals who have eliminated thousands of innocent lives in Nigeria but you’re here threatening and bullying innocent Nigerians??”

While @Adaete1 pointed out “typical police intimidation to grieving citizens speaking their minds, whilst IBD Dende walks free! Was Usman Alkali Baba the immediate past IGP not sentenced to prison?”

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project survey in 2020, revealed the Nigerian Police Force as the most corrupt public institution in Nigeria. According to the survey, 73% of Nigerians believe “most” or “all” police officials are corrupt, with only 15% expressing trust in the police.

The report highlighted a high probability of bribery in interactions with the police, raising concerns about corruption within the force.
