The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency confirmed that a police officer tragically died in an accident involving a truck and two buses near Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The incident occurred early in the morning on Thursday. LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, explained that the agency received distress calls at 6:44 a.m. and quickly sent a response team from the Command Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
“Upon arrival at the incident scene, it was discovered that a truck and two buses were involved in an accident,” he stated. The truck, marked FKJ 484 YA, was loaded with goods and heading toward Arepo. One bus, marked BWR 371 XC, and another bus with an unknown registration number, were also involved.
Further investigations revealed that the truck lost control and crashed into one bus before veering off the road and toppling onto another bus parked on the roadside.
Unfortunately, a police officer from Mopol 20 Division was caught in the accident while trying to maneuver his motorcycle. He was tragically killed on the spot.
Oke-Osanyintolu added that the agency used heavy-duty equipment to remove the damaged truck, and the goods were taken to the Ojodu Police Station for further processing. Both the truck and one of the buses were recovered and towed to the station for investigation.
