Police officer commits suicide in Niger

An Assistant Superintendent of Police, Shafiu Bawah, has tragically taken his own life in Niger State.

The incident occurred on February 8, 2025, at the 61 Police Mobile Force base in Kontagora.

Bawah was said to have hanged himself, according to a statement released by the Niger State Police Command on Sunday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident but stated that the motive behind the suicide remains unclear.

According to Abiodun, the officer’s body was removed from the scene and later released to his family for burial.

The Niger State Police Command has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

Suicide among law enforcement officers is a growing concern, often linked to stress, mental health challenges, and the pressures of the job.
