The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the death of Nkem ThankGod, a notorious kidnap kingpin and cult leader also known as “2man.”
The 42-year-old suspect, who had been linked to multiple murders, kidnappings, and attacks on government facilities, was neutralised during an intelligence-led operation in Ahoada East Local Government Area.
Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Mohammed, disclosed the development during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
He revealed that ThankGod, a leader of the Greenlander Cult Group, had been on the police wanted list since 2021 for crimes including, “the murder of a youth president, Christmas Ede, in 2021, the killings of two Shell staff members and the theft of their Toyota Hilux, the murder of a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Kiriki, and another civilian, Mrs. Abigail Victor, in 2024, the killing of two policemen attached to the Police Mobile Force (PMF 48) and two Rapid Response Team officers and multiple kidnappings and ransom extortions, followed by the execution of victims.”
The police chief stated that ThankGod’s criminal activities spanned Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas.
His end came while attempting another abduction with his gang. Although his accomplices escaped with injuries, police are actively pursuing them.
Recovered items included, two AK-47 rifles, five magazines and 22 rounds of live ammunition
CP Mohammed reiterated the command’s dedication to making Rivers State hostile to criminal elements, emphasizing that efforts would continue to dismantle criminal networks in the region.
“We remain committed to protecting lives and property. We urge the public to provide timely information on suspicious activities for prompt action,” he stated.
The police commissioner called on residents to support security efforts, assuring them that the command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and security of the state.
