The National Cybercrime Centre of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested three individuals in connection with charges of conspiracy, identity theft, and romance scams.

The suspects, identified as Njoku Kingsley (35), Chigozie Okorie (34), and Jideofor Sejus (35), were apprehended based on credible intelligence, according to a statement by the Force Spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, shared on the Force X account on Friday.

The investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in a series of deceptive practices, primarily employing the impersonation of an individual named Anthony James.

Operating under this false identity, the suspects engaged in romance scams, exploiting victims emotionally and financially.

Adejobi, in the statement, highlighted the voluntary written statements obtained from the suspects, where they admitted their roles in the criminal conspiracy.

“Members of the cyber community as a borderless state are enjoined to exercise great restraint or totally shy away from establishing resource-exchanging relationships in the social media space” Adejobi cautions

He further stated that the suspects are expected to face charges in court following the conclusion of the investigation.
