Police nab suspected serial rapist, armed robber in Lagos

Crack detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, under the Lagos State Police Command, have apprehended a suspected serial rapist and armed robber identified as Adedayo Ben Adegbola, following multiple reports of rape, assault, and robbery targeting female passengers across the state.

Police authorities confirmed that Adegbola, whose image had circulated widely on social media, was arrested after an intelligence-led investigation carried out by operatives of the SCID.

In a statement issued on Saturday, November 1, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed that the arrest followed a directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, who ordered a comprehensive probe into the alarming cases reported by several victims.

According to the statement, Adegbola was taken into custody on Friday, October 31, 2025, at approximately 9:40 a.m., following coordinated operations by specialized investigative teams within the SCID. The police also recovered a red Toyota Corolla with registration number JJJ 226 HT, allegedly used in the commission of the crimes.

“The suspect is currently in police custody, and investigations are being intensified to apprehend other accomplices believed to have participated in the commission of these crimes,” the statement read.

The command confirmed that the recovered vehicle has been secured as evidence and will be presented during prosecution.

Victims who may have experienced similar attacks have been encouraged to visit the SCID, Panti, to provide information or evidence that could assist ongoing investigations.

The police assured that the identities of all victims would remain confidential.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to justice and public safety, CP Olohundare Jimoh pledged that every effort would be made to ensure the suspect and his collaborators face the full weight of the law.

He further assured that the public would be kept informed as investigations progress.
