Police nab suspected cultist in Delta, recover pistol

The Divisional Anti-Crime Patrol Team in Umunede, Delta State have arrested a suspected cultist, Francis Sunday.

The police also recovered a locally made cut-to-size pistol from the suspect, who is now in police custody.

Confirming the incident, the Delta State Police Command issued a statement through its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe.

He provided details of the arrest and the recovery of the weapon, saying, “On 23/11/2023 at about 1400hrs, one man (name withheld) reported at the station that while an argument ensued between him and his siblings at his residence in Umunede Community, one Francis Sunday, a resident of the same Umunede Community, who was present at the time of altercation was ordered to leave the premises.”

According to Edafe, the situation escalated when Francis Sunday, feeling agitated, brandished a locally fabricated cut-to-size pistol and threatened violence.

Edafe stated, “The said Francis Sunday became furiously hostile and went ahead to pull out a locally fabricated cut-to-size pistol, threatening to kill anyone who tried to walk him out of the residence.”

Upon receiving the complaint, the police swiftly responded. “On 24/11/2023 at about 1230hrs, the operatives of the Divisional Anti-Crime Patrol Team stormed the residence of the complainant at No. 7 Old Agbor Road, Umunede where the alleged suspect was arrested,” said DSP Edafe.

Further investigations led the police to search Francis Sunday’s residence at Mbiri Community, Umunede, resulting in the recovery of the locally made cut-to-size pistol.

The suspect and the exhibit are currently in police custody, and the investigation has commenced.
