The Police Command in Delta state says it has arrested a suspected cult member, Akpofure Lucky, in Isoko South Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesman of the command, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement he made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Warri.
Edafe said that the suspect was nabbed on Friday by the operatives of the Command’s Crack Squad Team.
He added that the suspect was apprehended during the raid of a criminal hideout in Eri Community, near Oleh, the headquarters of Isoko South local government.
“On Sept. 24, 2021, at about 1610hrs, operatives of the Command’s Crack Squad acting on intelligence raided criminal hideouts in Eri Community, near Oleh in Isoko South.
“In the process, one Lucky, aged 37, was arrested with a locally-made pistol and three live cartridges.
“The suspect confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity,” he said.
Edafe said that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
The spokesman said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ari Ali was committed to sustaining the existing peace in the state.
“The CP has called on parents and guardians to caution their wards to shun all forms of cult-related practices which are the bedrocks of most of the prevalent crimes in the society.
“The command will remain committed in maintaining the already existing peace in the state and will not tolerate anyone who contravenes the law.
“To this effect, Area Commanders, DPO’s and Tactical Commanders have been directed to ensure sustained raids of criminal hideouts, black spots and the constant patrols of their areas of responsibilities.
“They should ensure that men deployed are properly supervised to ensure that they remain civil to the members of the public and shun all forms of corruption,” Edafe quoted the CP as saying.
