The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 47-year-old human trafficker, Alex Omosivie, and rescued two young women from his custody in Uyo.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said in a statement on Sunday that the arrest was made around 9:30 am on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, after operatives got reliable intelligence about Omosivie’s activities.
She said, “The arrest was made following credible information that Mr. Omosivie frequently came to Uyo to traffic young women to various African countries for prostitution and other illegal activities.”
According to her, a surveillance team tracked Omosivie to a hotel on Ring Road 3, Uyo, where he was arrested and the victims rescued.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, a deportee from an African country, had recently trafficked two other young women, 18-year-old Odo Asuquo Asuquo to Libya in July 2025 and 16-year-old Glory Asuquo Asuquo to Burkina Faso on August 18, 2025,” John added.
The police spokesperson said Omosivie confessed during interrogation that he was paid N50,000 for each victim. She noted that the parents of the girls already trafficked have been contacted to assist in the investigation.
“The investigation is ongoing to track and arrest his accomplices,” she said.
