The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial car thief, Alhassan Isa, also known as Tata, and recovered a stolen vehicle.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday.
According to him, the stolen car, a Mazda 323 Model F with registration number MNA 139HK from Niger State, belonged to Abdurrahman Sadiq, a staff member of the Nigerian Institute of Oil Palm Research.
Adam said, “Sadiq had parked his vehicle at Aujara village in Jahun Local Government Area and forgot the key inside. When he woke up the next morning, he discovered that the vehicle was missing.”
Following Sadiq’s report at the Dutse Division on February 21, 2025, detectives from the division and the State Criminal Investigation Department began investigations, which led to Isa’s arrest.
The police spokesperson revealed that Isa, a resident of Shuwarin town in Kiyawa Local Government Area, confessed to stealing the car during interrogation.
“Further investigations showed that the suspect is an ex-convict with multiple charges related to motorcycle and tricycle theft,” Adam added.
He assured that the suspect would be charged to court soon. “We will ensure that justice is served in this case,” he said.
The Jigawa State Police Command also advised vehicle owners to be cautious, lock their vehicles properly, and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
The police reiterated their commitment to fighting crime and ensuring public safety in the state.
