A 20-year-old man, Abubakar Abdu, has been arrested in Adamawa State for allegedly killing a woman who accused him of stealing her maize.
Abdu, who lives in Gengle village, Mayo Belwa Local Government Area, is said to have stabbed 30-year-old Azumi Abubakar to death.
The Adamawa Police Command, in a statement on Monday, confirmed that the arrest was made on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, explained the incident, saying, “The suspect had on November 7, 2024, at about 3 a.m., broken into the house of the victim and stole some maize.”
According to the police, Abdu attempted to flee with the stolen maize, but Azumi recognized him and called out his name. Nguroje said, “Upon realizing that he was noticed, the suspect immediately attacked the victim by stabbing her with a knife, as a result of which she died.”
The police have stated that Abdu will face court charges once the investigation is completed.
