Police nab Abia Ministry Director for extorting N500 from students
Police authorities in Abia have arrested a director in Abia State Ministry of Education, Wogu Alozie, for allegedly extorting ₦500 each from students in various schools.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Abia State Government through the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prof. A. C. B. Agbazuere last Sunday.
The statement also said that Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, is greatly appalled by the criminal act.
The PUNCH reported that Alozie wrote letters to primary and secondary schools in the state and signed for the Permanent Secretary without his consent.
While explaining that Wogu “has owned up to the illicit act and is presently with the police to completely unmask the syndicate”, the state government warned, “all those who pad salaries, hide under the cover of government to defraud people or engage in other forms of corruption are advised in their own interest to have a rethink or be prepared to taste the sour waters of the law.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, Geoffrey Ogbonna, through a text message, responded, “I’m not aware, please.”
