Security presence increased on Tuesday at the Peoples Democratic Party national headquarters in Abuja as two rival factions fixed their meetings for the same time and venue.
Armed police officers and patrol vehicles were stationed around the secretariat on Tuesday morning, heightening anxiety within the party after days of deepening internal disputes.
One faction, aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, had earlier called for an emergency session of the party’s Board of Trustees and National Executive Committee slated for Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
The announcement was issued on Monday by the factional National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and circulated online by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka.
According to the notice, the meeting was scheduled to hold at the NEC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
At the same time, a faction loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde fixed its own meeting for the same day and location, increasing fears of a possible clash between supporters of both blocs.
The deepening split follows the recent expulsion of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu during the party’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Their removal came after a motion moved by Chief Olabode George, former National Vice Chairman (South), and seconded by Samaila Buga, Chairman of PDP Bauchi State.
