The Lagos State Police Command has started an investigation into an explosion that happened at a CCTV camera shop in Ikeja.
The explosion occurred on Friday, April 11, 2025, around 6:35 p.m. on Kodesho Street at Computer Village, a popular area in Lagos.
Lagos State Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.
According to Hundeyin, officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, the Mobile Police Detachment, and regular police officers quickly moved to the scene to secure the area.
“The scene of the explosion and surrounding areas were immediately cordoned off by our operatives. EOD experts swept the area to make sure it was safe for residents and to begin a full investigation to find out what caused the explosion,” he said.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, also arrived at the scene shortly after the explosion to inspect the damage.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion,” Hundeyin added. “The Commissioner of Police urges residents to stay calm and continue with their daily activities, as the area has been made safe and secured.”
Five people who were inside or near the shop at the time of the explosion were injured. They have been taken to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Hundeyin also said the police remain committed to keeping Lagos safe and will continue working to ensure peace across the state.
