The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into an explosion at Quantum Steel, a factory located along the Sagamu-Ikorodu Road in Ogijo, which left seven workers, including three expatriates, injured.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, was reported to the Ogijo Police Division by a staff member, Joseph Adewale.
Those affected include four Nigerian workers and three expatriates, who sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, attributed the explosion to machinery failure.
She disclosed that the blast originated from one of the factory’s machines, resulting in severe injuries to the affected workers.
The victims were rushed to Rolayo Hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding well.
Detectives have visited the scene, conducted an initial assessment, and documented evidence, including photographs.
A full investigation is now underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion and ensure compliance with industrial safety regulations.
The police command has urged companies and industries to prioritize workplace safety measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
