The Police have intercepted three truck-loads of properties allegedly vandalized and stolen from the premises of the moribund Delta Steel Company (DSC), now Premium Mines & Steel Limited in Ovwian/Aladja Community, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The three drivers of the intercepted trucks were also arrested by the policemen on Friday, February 14, following a tip-off.
Sources close to the community told our correspondent that the arrests were effected sequel to an alarm raised by some residents of Ovwian Community who were apparently concerned over the resuscitation of the Steel Company.
Consequently, the Community members apprehended the trucks and the accused drivers as they made spirited moves to escape..
The police were then called to the scene who quickly swung into action and intercepted the three trucks loaded with the company’s vandalized properties together with the three drivers.
When contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa confirmed the report.
CP Inuwa, in a telephone chat with our correspondent, said his Command “actually got information that some suspected trucks were moving out of Aladja area with items suspected to have been vandalized from the moribund DSC”.
“As a result, I quickly got in touch with the Commander of Safe Delta to consequently move along with his men and they intercepted the three trucks.
“The three trucks are now at Ovwian/Aladja Division for safekeeping while the three drivers were apprehended.”
