Police intercept explosive devices, arrest driver in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a truck conveying materials suspected to be explosive devices in Saki, Oke Ogun area of the state.

Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, stating that the driver of the truck has been arrested.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command intercepted a truck conveying materials suspected to be explosive devices during a stop-and-search operation in Saki,” Ayanlade said.

The truck and the suspected materials are currently in police custody. Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna has ordered a comprehensive investigation.

Specialized personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit have been deployed to safely secure the items for forensic examination.

“Detailed forensic analysis has since commenced, alongside a thorough and robust investigation to determine the exact nature of the items and their intended use,” the statement added.

The driver is in custody and cooperating with investigators.

This development follows an earlier report that a police inspector was killed on Saturday when gunmen suspected to be bandits ambushed a police patrol team in Oyo.
