The Adamawa State Police Command has intensified efforts to track down the armed men responsible for the abduction of two Catholic priests in the state.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, has raised fresh concerns over the rising cases of insecurity in the region.

The kidnapped clergymen, Rev. Fr. Mathew Dusami of Yola Catholic Diocese and Rev. Fr. Abraham Samman of Jalingo Diocese, were taken from their residence in Gwaida Malam, Numan Local Government Area, around 4:00 a.m.

Police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the development, stating that security operatives had been mobilized to ensure the safe return of the victims. According to him, Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has deployed tactical units to pursue the kidnappers and bring them to justice.

“The CP has activated all operational and manpower assets of the command to give a hot chase to the kidnappers, rescue the victims unhurt, and apprehend the perpetrators and any of their collaborators,” Nguroje said.

The police further condemned the targeting of religious leaders, stressing that priests play a crucial role in fostering peace and stability in society.

“This unprovoked attack on religious leaders is unacceptable. The command remains committed to protecting lives and property and will resist all forms of violent crime,” Nguroje added.

As the search intensifies, the police have urged residents to remain calm and provide any useful information that could aid the rescue efforts.
