The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Police Inspector Aminu Mohammed for his involvement in a robbery at his duty station, ‘C’ Division in Lokoja, the state capital.

The arrest took place on Sunday. On Tuesday, Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye-Aya, made this known in a statement.

He said, “Mohammed, a crime officer with the ‘C’ Division at 200 Unit, Lokoja, is currently being held at the A Division of the command. The State Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, has ordered an investigation into the involvement of the inspector in the crimes labelled against him.”

The stolen car was found at a workshop in Ochadamu, near Anyigba, where a panel beater, Arome Moses, was attempting to change the car’s color.

Ovye-Aya, explained, “The car was identified by individuals who knew the owner and were aware of the robbery incident that occurred on June 14, 2024. They quickly alerted the authorities, leading to the arrest of the inspector and the recovery of the stolen vehicle.”

“The car’s plate number had already been changed to an Abuja number, and a car dealer’s receipt, backdated to 2020, was presented by the officer as his evidence of purchasing it. His panel beater had primed the car preparatory to changing its color before the alarm was raised,” Aya added.

After the alarm was raised, policemen from the Quick Response Unit attached to the Police Area Command were called in, and the panel beater was apprehended.

One of the members of the gang of armed robbers, who had been on the police wanted list for other crimes, confessed to the robbery and named the police officer as the mastermind.

The gang member revealed, “We were contracted to rob the house of the car owner for the sole aim of getting the car for him.”
