The Katsina State Police Command announced on Monday that its officers successfully foiled two separate bandit attacks and rescued five kidnapped victims.

During the operations, two kidnappers were also neutralized.

The Command’s Spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, shared the details in a press statement made available to Channels Television.

He reported that the police received a distress call on Sunday about a bandit attack on Layin Minister Village in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, where five people were kidnapped.

“On August 25, 2024, at about 10:00 AM, a distress call was received at the Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters about a bandit attack on Layin Minister Village, Malumfashi LGA, kidnapping five people,” Sadiq said.

He explained that police operatives were quickly mobilized and dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the bandits opened fire on the officers, who responded with equal force. “The hoodlums opened fire on the operatives, which they responded to gallantly,” he added.

As a result of the police’s intervention, all five kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed. The bandits, overwhelmed by the police’s superior firepower, fled the scene with various bullet wounds.

Later that same day, at about 5:40 PM, another distress call reported a second attack by suspected armed bandits on Marabar Kankara village in Malumfashi LGA.

The bandits, riding on twelve motorcycles and armed with dangerous weapons, took advantage of the heavy rain to launch their attack.

“On receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer of Malumfashi swiftly mobilized operatives and responded to the scene,” Sadiq explained. The police engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, successfully foiling the attack. After scanning the area, the bodies of two neutralized bandits were recovered.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects as the investigation continues.

Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, praised the officers for their bravery and reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring a safer Katsina State.
