Some officers attached to the Edo State Police Command have reportedly extorted the sum of N100,000 from two innocent young men in Benin City, Edo State capital.

Reports said the two young men were arrested and taken into custody by police officers who alleged they are internet fraudsters.

It was further gathered that when the allegation was found to be baseless, the policemen went on to fabricate another allegation by accusing them of being cultists and demanded the sum of N200,000 from them, but the victims in their wisdom gave them the sum of N100,000 to avoid further problem.

Confirming the matter, Osazee Edigin‎ said the policemen took the young men to an ATM to withdraw the said amount, noting that unfortunately for them, information reached the Edo Civil Society Organisations and the Coordinator General, Comrade Omobude Agho and other comrades took it upon themselves to investigate the matter.

Edigin said after the investigation, it was discovered that the young men were wrongly accused and the Officer in Charge of the Unit at the state police command swiftly responded and retrieved the money from the police officers that carried out the disgraceful act.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time members of EDOCSO are recovering money allegedly extorted by police officers from law-abiding citizens.
