The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has reportedly uncovered a suspected child trafficking ring operating under the cover of an orphanage in the Saburi area.
The discovery came following a petition dated January 29, 2026, submitted by concerned members of the Saburi community to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, over alleged unusual activities at the facility.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command noted that it acted promptly by launching a discreet and comprehensive investigation into the claims. Preliminary findings indicated that the operators allegedly targeted poor families in rural areas nationwide, taking custody of children under the guise of offering them education in urban centers and promising better living conditions.
The statement further revealed that the children were reportedly trafficked to prospective buyers in different parts of the country, using the orphanage as a front.
“So far, twenty-one (21) out of forty-six (46) children trafficked through the illegal orphanage operation have been rescued and are undergoing procedures to ensure their safe reunification with their biological parents, while efforts continue to locate the remaining victims and apprehend all those connected to the crime,” the statement read.
The Command has urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about the welfare of their children, cautioning that not all offers of sponsorship or improved opportunities are genuine.
It also commended the Saburi community for its alertness and cooperation and encouraged residents to report suspicious persons or activities promptly through the emergency lines: 08028940883 and 08032003913.
