The Jigawa State Police Command has described as fake a viral video claiming that armed bandits rode motorcycles through Dutse, the state capital.

The video, which sparked panic on social media, was said to be fabricated and misleading.

In a statement on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, said investigations showed that those seen in the video were not bandits but members of the Peace and Security Service Organisation, a hunters’ group from Bauchi State.

Adam explained that the group was returning from a meeting in Chai-Chai Sabuwa, Ringim Local Government Area, when someone filmed them.

“They carried traditional gear like Dane guns, bows, and arrows, not bandit weapons. This is pure misrepresentation that could spark needless tension,” he said.

The police spokesman urged residents to remain calm and ignore the rumour.

Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, also appealed for calm and encouraged residents to go about their normal activities without fear.

He commended the public for sharing useful information with the police and urged continued vigilance.

“Report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station and stay alert,” the commissioner said.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that Jigawa remains peaceful and secure.
