The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a document circulating on social media claiming that security officers attached to several VIPs have been ordered to report back to the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Abuja.

In a statement shared on the Force’s X handle on Friday and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, the police described the memo as fake and misleading.

The internal memo, allegedly signed by one CSP Suleiman Abdullahi as the Admin Officer of the squadron, listed VIPs such as Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo, Nyesom Wike, Aisha Buhari, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, Ngozi Iweala, Senator Ahmed Lawal, Senator Tanko Almakura, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, Hon. Ibrahim Massari, and others.

The NPF said no officer with that name serves in the 50 PMF Squadron and noted that the position of Admin Officer in any PMF squadron is not held by an officer of CSP rank.

According to the police, the document was created to mislead the public and cause confusion.

Hundeyin said, “For emphasis, the Nigeria Police Force confirms that the implementation of the Presidential Directive on the withdrawal of police officers from VIP duties has indeed commenced. However, this process is being carried out in a structured, phased, and professional manner to ensure that no security vacuum is created that could be exploited by criminal elements.”

The statement added that the safety of Nigerians remains the Force’s top priority and assured that measures have been put in place to maintain order throughout the transition.

The NPF urged the public to rely only on verified police communication channels and stop sharing unconfirmed documents that could undermine public trust.

The Force restated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of lives and property across the country.
