The Ondo State Police Command has taken two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko into custody for planning and raping a 20-year-old female student.

Police spokesperson DSP Olushola Ayanlade confirmed the arrest on Monday. He said the case shows the command’s growing effort to respond quickly to serious offences.

According to the police, early findings showed that the victim was tricked into visiting the home of her longtime friend, Queen Sodo, a 19-year-old undergraduate of the school.

Ayanlade said the young woman had known Sodo since secondary school and agreed to take a drink offered to her. The drink was later discovered to contain drugs that made her lose consciousness.

He said, “After noticing the victim had become incapacitated, Queen Sodo reportedly left the room, invited her male accomplice, and kept watch while the crime occurred.”

A neighbour who heard strange sounds rushed into the apartment and met the victim unconscious beside the male suspect.

The victim was taken for urgent medical care before being moved to a specialist hospital. She is currently responding to treatment.

Ayanlade said, “Both suspects have confessed to their involvement and described their specific roles in the crime.”

He added that key evidence, including the drugged drink, had been recovered and identified by both the victim and the suspects.

The police said the two students remain in custody and will be handed over to the Gender Desk Office for further investigation and prosecution.

Ayanlade said, “The command assures the public that offenders will face the full weight of the law, regardless of familiarity with their victims.”

He also advised parents and guardians to warn their children to be careful in their friendships, noting that long-term relationships can still be abused for criminal purposes.
