Authorities in Nasarawa State have dismissed reports that students were kidnapped from St. Peters’ Foundation Secondary School in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area.

The state police confirmed on Friday that the alarm was false. Police spokesperson SP Ramhel Nansel explained that the panic began when pupils, while playing sports, saw hunters carrying Dane guns near the school and mistook them for kidnappers.

“The Nasarawa State Police Command’s attention has been drawn to a report circulating across social media platforms and some news outlets alleging that kidnappers invaded St. Peter’s Academy, Rukubi, in Doma Local Government Area, and abducted two pupils. The Command wishes to state unequivocally that the report is false and does not reflect the true state of affairs,” the statement read.

SP Nansel added, “On 21/11/2025 at about 1000hrs, an unverified report filtered in alleging that two pupils were abducted while engaging in sporting activities. In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, promptly deployed a combined team of police and military personnel. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the pupils had sighted some hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, mistaking them for kidnappers.”

The officers combed the area and restored normalcy. The school proprietor, Peters Ezegwoya, confirmed the alarm was false. Authorities continue to monitor the area for security.

The Police Command urged the public to ignore the circulating report and advised journalists to verify information before publication to prevent panic.
