The Kwara State Police Command has refuted claims that bandits displaced from Zamfara State have relocated to Kwara.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, speaking on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, dismissed the reports circulating on social media as false and misleading.

The police emphasised that there was no intelligence or operational report to suggest the movement of bandits from Zamfara to any part of Kwara State.

A social media report on Sunday had alleged that fleeing bandits from Zamfara had moved to Banni in the Kaiama Local Government Area.

However, the police command insisted that there was no evidence to support such claims.

“The attention of the Kwara State Police Command has been drawn to a report alleging that bandits fleeing military offensives in Zamfara State have relocated to Banni town in Kwara State.

“The command categorically debunks this claim as false and misleading, a fabrication intended to cause unnecessary panic among residents. There is no intelligence or operational report to support the presence of armed bandits in Banni,” the statement read.

The police assured residents that security agencies had intensified surveillance across the state to prevent any potential threats.

The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed that Kwara remained safe and that security operatives were fully prepared to handle any concerns.

He urged the public to disregard unverified reports and avoid spreading misinformation.
