The Ogun State Police Command has refuted reports of an alleged explosion in the Sabo area of Owode-Yewa in Ogun West Senatorial District, dismissing claims of casualties and injuries.
Speaking with Channels Television on Tuesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said no such incident was reported from the area.
“This report is not true,” Odutola stated. “Nothing of such has been reported, and the Divisional Police Officer in Owode-Yewa has also confirmed that there was no explosion in the area.”
Earlier reports had claimed that an explosion occurred on Monday when a scavenger, locally known as “BolaBola,” accidentally triggered a blast while dismantling a metal object. It was alleged that the incident caused the death of four people, while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to the General Hospital in Ilaro for treatment.
Emergency responders and local authorities were also reportedly mobilized to the scene to manage the situation, with investigations said to be ongoing to determine the nature of the metal object that allegedly caused the explosion.
However, the police have maintained that no such event occurred, urging the public to disregard the circulating report.
Further updates are expected if more details emerge from investigations by relevant authorities.
