The Nigeria Police Force has denied recent speculations regarding the alleged hacking of the Enugu State Government‘s official bank account.

According to viral online reports, the alleged hacking reportedly led to the theft of 1.09 billion naira from the Enugu State government treasury, a claim the police headquarters in Abuja described as fabricated and lacking any factual basis.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, explained that an investigation conducted by the NPF’s National Cyber Crime Centre revealed that the theft was not a cyber breach but rather a case of procurement fraud.

The statement added that a suspect has already been apprehended in Enugu state in connection with the fraud, and the stolen funds have been successfully recovered by the state government.

The statement from the force headquarters in Abuja added, “The Enugu State Government and other ministries, departments, and agencies of government and corporate firms are in partnership with the NCCC and have established comprehensive and fortified security protocols to safeguard their financial systems.

“Citizens are hereby encouraged to refrain from engaging in misinformation and to always verify the credibility of news sources.”
